International artistry meets local roots in this special evening of Italian opera.

Marco:
Born into a well-known musical family in Lecce, Italy, Marco Ferulli is one of those rare multi-instrumentalist performers who is also a scholar and pedagogue. During his time at university, he obtained degrees in violin, tenor voice & musicology from the Tito Schipa Conservatory in Lecce, and went on to add Master’s degrees in Music Education from the Nino Rota Conservatory in Monopoli, and Philosophy from the University of the Salento.

As lead violin professor at Lecce’s Liceo Musicale, a preparatory music school for university and conservatory, Marco is known for his love of teaching and performing. He has also taught vocal masterclasses throughout Italy, and is an accomplished pianist. Having participated in concerts throughout Italy & Europe now makes his U.S. debut in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

After meeting and performing together in Lecce, Italy, Marco joined local Honesdalians, Carl & Marianne Milks in founding Lo Spazio d’Arte, a 15th century space for music, theater, art, cinema. Marco has taken on the responsibilities of Artistic Director, with Marianne and Carl performing as President and Vice-President, respectively.

As winner of the “Voci Nuove Competition” in Volterra, Marco was proud to receive his award from renowned tenor Andrea Bocelli. After his performance at the winner’s concert, the president of the association was heard saying, “Marco, hearing you sing is like a breath of fresh air!”

Melanie Henley Heyn:
Roaring onto the operatic stage in recent seasons, Henley Heyn made her Straussian and Wagnerian debuts as Salome & Brünnhilde, followed closely by a harrowing portrayal of Magda Sorel in Gian Carlo Menotti’s Pulitzer Prize-winning drama, The Consul. Her new record combining classic Wagner & Verdi heroines with modern American arias was featured on Apple Music’s New in Classical and Spotify’s Fresh Finds.

She will soon be raising funds for her next project: UNUM an American quartet, made up of Henley Heyn as soprano, life-long friend (from PA Regional Choir) Dashon Burton as bass-baritone, internationally renowned Lebanese-American tenor Karim Sulayman, and golden-toned Panamanian-American alto, Gabriela Estephanie Solìs, also of Pennsylvania. Their first album, Arrival, will feature 2- 3- & 4- part harmonies brought by the emigré groups that make up America, including niche gems from the Huguenots, Cajuns & German pioneers, along with perennial favorites like Oh, Danny Boy, Simple Gifts & De Colores!

Born and raised here in NEPA, Melanie graduated from Honesdale High School and grew up swimming in the Delaware after rehearsals with the DVO. After early training in New York at the Manhattan School of Music, she graduated from the University of Southern California and went on to study triple Master’s Degrees at the Konservatorium in Vienna, Austria.  She can be heard on the soundtracks of The Professor & the Madman on Netflix(TW/CW), David Chang’s The Next Thing You Eat on Hulu, the podcast Crimetown, and the ever-relevant cult television series Battlestar Galactica.
